Party Themes: High Tea at Home!

My favourite girls' date is high tea, or afternoon tea. Back in the way back when, afternoon tea was really more of an evening tea, eaten around 5 o'clcok. Wealthy English would munch on tea sandwiches, scones, bread and butter, and luxurious pasteries. They'd drink their loose leaf, caffeinated tea with milk and sugar. Then they'd have their supper! Eat, eat, eat-eat-eat. Sounds a bit Downton Abbey doesn't it? What I wouldn't give to be able to do this every day! Lucky old-time British folks.
Now Afternoon Tea - called High tea, in some of the tea shops and businesses around here is a fancy treat out. 3 tiers of decadent pastries, adorable baby sandwiches, rich clotted cream, and fresh scones. And of course all the tea your bladder can handle in a 2-3 hour gab session.

This Valentine's day weekend my best friends and I organized our own high tea. Well they organized, I baked cookies and showed up in a cute dress. (I was a bit preoccupied with work.)
Best girls day ever! And so easy to put together when everyone gets involved!

High teas out can be kind of expensive; well not kind of, it is on a student budget. It can also be a little bit pricy to purchase all the ingredients to do it at home too, but not if everyone is responsible for bringing either a dessert or tea sandwich! There were only 4 of us for our party and we ended up with too much food!! (Left-overs for the boys!)
Try it with your girlfriends, it's the perfect excuse for everyone to come together for an afternoon!

Our menu included:
  • Cream of Earl Grey Tea
  • Chai Tea
  • Yogurt parfaits with fresh berries and greek yogurt
  • Cinnamon scones
Sandwiches
  • Apple, bacon & brie open face on french bread
  • Chicken curry on homemade rosemary buns
  • Cucumber & hummus
desserts
  • Coconut macaroons
  • Key lime tarts
  • Linzer cookies filled with chocolate raspberry jam
Fancy bits
How fantastic would a Birthday High Tea Party be? I love outdoor Teas when the weather warms up. Any excuse really to sit around looking cute all afternoon, chatting with friends, eating desserts, and drinking tea is good enough for me.

Here's a little inspiration board for your next high tea:

Are you freaking out because you don't know what to wear to a high tea? Ok, well even if you're not, I have a style segment post coming up for tea parties as well! I just have such a passion for tea parties! Can we have a cyber-tea party? Is that already a thing? Let's make it one.

P.S.
If you'd rather simply sit down and be waited on like your long-lost British relatives, or like Marie Antoinette, because that's all any of us really want, there are lots of  fantastic places locally to go out for tea as well:
So when are you planning your next tea party?
I may be making "Party Themes" into a new segment so please let me know what you think!
